Due to the new investments and economic growth the number of employed people will increase by 23 000, which means that the city will employ more than 113 000 people by the end of the decade. Debrecen has launched its strategic development program to grow its population via strengthening its role as a regional center. One pillar of this program is the development of higher and vocational education. Increase the number of students at the university from 36 000 to 50 000 students by 2050. In the past ten years, the number of unemployed people in Debrecen has decreased by a third. It can be said that employment in the city is close to full.
